20% of hiring managers reported they have fired a worker for calling in sick without a legitimate reason. Be smart or else you will get caught and could eventually loose your job.

Tips:

• Don't lie, no matter which excuse you decide to use. Your employer will know when you lie. When you play hooky it will come back and bite you. When you lie too much you usually don't remember which excuse you have used, but your boss never forgets and will catch you in the lie. Just be honest and most employers are understandable and would rather hear the truth.

• The best excuse are the one that are believable. If you have employees that know each other and hang out after work together, it's better to tell the truth because eventually the truth will find it's way back. You may not get caught with the first lie, but if you take off a lot of days with your employer, they will begin to get suspicious and reinforce the rumors of what people are saying are true.

• Do you like your job? Do you enjoy where you work? Think about this before playing hooky.
  Overall, playing hooky will not win you any fans at work. When you skip work, you make another employee pick up your slack. It also does not help you advance in your career and eventually you'll get "laid off" or "replaced".
